Amber is out of surgery...

Amber made it thru surgery. She spent last night and today in PICU. This afternoon she was put into a room. Its room 412. She had a bad night she was very sick from being under surgery for 6 hours. Her face is swollen but not as bad as we thought. She looks really good. She wanted to know if I called to let all her friends know she was ok. She is in pretty bad pain but she hasnt complained at all. Amber is a very special little girl. She has always been beautiful to us but the doctor said she was going to be even prettier. She loves reading post from all of you so please keep writing her.

Momma's almost on her seventh month, that means that she only has about 2 more months left!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyway I've gotta go to New Orleans and redo my CT scans!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hey ya'll today is the day that i was born!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm twelve and i feel great!!! Momma's doing better too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She has had a few head aches and she has almost threw up on herself, like yesterday when we were cleaning the living room she gagged a few times, but other than that her and my little brother are both very healthy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SORRY THAT I HAVEN'T POSTED SINCE THANKSGIVING, I FORGET TO POST SOMETHIMES.ANYWAY I GOT A NEW PAIR OF GLASSES, THE EYE DOCTER SAID THAT MY EYES ARE A FEW PONTS OR WHATEVER IT'S CALLED BETTER.MOM REALLY DON'T LIKE MY GLASSES.I SAID THAT I LOOK LIKE A NEIRD (NANA AND MOM TELL ME THAT I DON'T THOUGH. WE ALSO WENT BACK TO THAT NEUROLIGIST IN 'T NO RIGHT MONROE, HE SAID THAT I DON'T NEED ANY SURGERY BUT I MAY LATER ON WE REALLY DON'T KNOW RIGHT NOW.
MY WHOLE FAMILY AND I NEED A REALLY STRONG PRAYER FROM EVERYONE THAT

Hey yall sorry i havent posted in a while,and that the last post was
really short. But anyway our Thanksgiving was fantastic and i made it
the best that they had ever had!We stayed at my grand mothers house
all week and last night was the first night lizzy and i have been
home all week. Oh and last Saturday was the day that i got out of
the hospital in 2006!Well thats all i wanted to say talk 2 yall later

(Center for Neuro Skills).Ihad speech first,i had councling second,
i had occupational third,my lunch break was forth, physical came fifth

We came home for the weekend. The trip home was good but long. We will leave Sunday going back. Amber is doing good in therapy. She is keeping a daily journal of her therapies. They are working her very hard. She has made another friend, Alexa. She is 7yrs old and such a sweet little girl.
We did fireworks tonight and ate with Nana and Misty. This afternoon Tyler and Dad got in the yard with us and played ball. Amber hit the ball real good with a patch over one eye. Alizabeth is doing good too. She had to go to the doctor while we were in dallas. She has 2 ear infections, so no swimming for 7 days.
Tomorrow we will go to Emma Graces birthday party. The girls are really excited to so her. I am trying to post some new pictures of the kids so dont forget to go look.

1st week in Dallas June 27

This has been Ambers first week in Dallas. She is doing rehab out here 5 days a week from 9 til 2. She is learning how to handle different situations that life may bring. How to act around kids her own age(social skills), she is also having physical therapy, occupational, speech, educational therapy, counseling, behavior therapy... think that is it. This is a very nice place and very nice people that are all trained in Tramatic brain injury. Amber has met 2 boys that have TBI and hearing them talk about their accidents and what they have been through is great. The therapist do not let her hug them, I guess they are teaching her not to hug just anyone. They make her shake their hands. She has to see an eye doctor soon to talk about her eye surgery. she is wearing a patch on her eyes. She switches eyes every 2 hours. Her brain is trying to shut the right eye down so they are making her use it. It is very hard for her.
While amber is in therapy, Alizabeth wants to swim in the hot hot sun all day. She is diving off the deep end of the pool. She can swim the entire length of the pool. After getting Amber from therapy we go back swimming. We have both dogs with us here. Nanas dog and Ambers dog. They are driving me crazy. Alizabeth mets with the counselor today at 3. I am very excited about that. Maybe they can get rid of that Dooley Sutton attitude. Ha ha.
Well I will try to keep this updated for those who are reading everyday. Amber likes to post, she is keeping a diary of her daily activities at therapy so she can post those. Please keep us in your prayers. Amber is physically doing great but she is going to need alot of help and ecouragement from people that love her.

I just read Ambers post. I think she is missing all of her friends. She can't wait to get back to school with them. She got her report card today and had all A's and B's. She is doing so good. Learning more and more everyday. Her memory has come back so good. She goes to Mrs. Richmond 4 days a week for school. They are building a beautiful doll house for an art project. Mrs. Richmond said she will be ready to go back to school in January. To all her friends, call her sometimes she misses yall so much. She needs to have yall close to her.
Yes dad and I are going to Arkansas. We are going digging for diamonds. A weekend to ourselves. The girls are not happy with us but I think we need alittle alone time.
Lizzy has been sick. They finally determined that she has a UT infection. She has not felt good.
Tyler is busy. Always has something to do. He just got through with football and fixing to start baseball practice. He is growing so tall. So cute to. Watch out girls....
Jeffrey and I are always busy. We still search the internet everynight to find out new help for Amber.
I have been reading Hallie Beth Gravelles website. Those of you who doesnt have her in your prayers please put her in them. She is so precious and her family is so strong.
I have been talking to Shannon on messenger. He is doing good. I talked to his wife Ann alittle tonight. That is why I am up so late. Hopefully she can come home with him next year so we all can met her.

A Special Prayer Request!

I am asking everyone to please say a prayer for my daughter Madison Pruitt she is 14 years old and last September she was diagnosed with a very unique type of thyroid cancer. I am a single mother of three children. This has been a very difficult year. Madison has done very well through all this. I am very proud of her! She is one of the strongest people I know! Her faith in god family and friends has got through this terrible situation! Now I will explain the situation in more detail. This started with a lymph node in her neck that would not go away. I took her to our family physician Dr. Patrick Deere, M.D. and he first gave her antibiotics it still did not go away. He suggested that we needed to see an ENT Specialist, so he referred us to Dr. Clifford Rice with Christus Schumpert Highland. Dr. Rice performed a biopsy of her lymph nodes and at that time she was diagnosed with Diffuse Sclerosing Variant Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma. Dr. Rice and Dr. Deere made every effort to get her to St Judes Hospital and Madison was refused because they consider Thyroid Cancer an adult disease. At that time Dr Clifford Rice, M.D. with Christus Schumpert Highland referred us to Dr. Timothy Lian with the Feist Weiller Cancer Center at LSU Health Sciences Center (Head of the ENT Surgery Department). Within the time she was diagnosed and her surgery was scheduled (a 6 week period) her condition went from an enlarged thyroid and 6 abnormal lymph nodes to a enlarged thyroid a huge tumor and 17 lymph nodes this cancer had progressively grew and moved not only in her neck but throughout her chest and attached to her heart. Dr. Lian and his staff were wonderful. They performed surgery on October 5th, they were very pleased after the 7-8 hour surgery. Terrifying for myself and her family and friends. She spent 10 days in ICU at LSU before being released. Six weeks later Dr. Sudha Reddy (Pediatric Endocrinologist) order her to have a radiation treatment which was supposed to treat and kill any thyroid tissues left or lymph nodes after her surgery. Dr. Reddy also treated Madison during the time she was admitted at LSU for her surgery. Madison had to wait 6 months before she could have another thyroid scan and that’s where we are at this point. She had her thyroid scan in November and from that point it has lead us here today(August 2007). She has had every test that Dr. Reddy can order at LSU. She just had another Ultrasound, Pet Scan, Cat Scan and more blood work. Dr. Reddy discovered that with these test and blood work she now has new thyroid tissue and lymph nodes present which can result in the cancer coming back at any time if it’s not already present. Remember this is a very progressive cancer. Dr. Reddy has been consulting other physicians over the last several weeks about Madison's situation from different facilities to get second opinions because this is such a unique cancer and Madison is only 14. Dr. Reddy has recommended that she go to M.D. Anderson to see Dr. Steven Waguespack (Specialist). Dr. Reddy is a wonderful Doctor and she is doing everything she can to get Madison the best care possible for this type of cancer. M.D. Anderson has informed me that they will not accept Louisiana Medicaid and would require full payment up front, which they are talking about 30 to 40 thousand dollars. This physician at M.D. Anderson wants to see and treat Madison because he has the availability to do more extensive research and treatment than what LSU can offer. He has also asked the administration office to see what they can do but at his time they are still refusing to see her. I have spoke with Louisiana Medicaid and they are willing to pay for her care at M.D. Anderson so my question is why will they not accept a child with insurance willing to pay for her care and treatment and a Physician at there facility willing to treat her? Today at this point Dr. Reddy has made arrangements for Madison to go to Boston’s Children’s Hospital at Harvard. Dr. Stephen Huang will be her physician there. We will be leaving on October 27, 2007. They have informed me that the first week that were there everything will be done as outpatient services; they have her surgery scheduled for November 5, 2007. I have come to find out that everything in Boston is much more expensive there. We are having a hard time finding a hotel there because the playoffs are there the week are going. I have reserved a hotel for the first 4 days at a 50% discount it will still cost us $149.99 per night. We will continue to search for another hotel between now and when we leave. There has been a special account set up for Madison Pruitt at Regions Bank for donations to help with our expenses while were there. There are several people that I would like to thank that have helped so far with our air fare. All of my family, The Springhill United Methodist Church, The Old United Methodist Church of Shongaloo, The United Methodist Church of Haynesville, The Patient Advacate Foundation (Kimberly Owen), The American Cancer Society (Glynna and Lisa) out of the Shreveport office, Cancer Foundation League of Louisiana, The National Children’s Cancer Society, KTAL Channel 6 News (Wanda and Jessica), Continental Express. I would also like to thank everyone that helped last year while we were in Shreveport, LA. My Family, Friends and the churches from my home town Umpire, AR helped a great deal and I appreciate every one of them so very much! I just want everyone to know that all the help, prayers and support that we have had has been so greatly appreciated!!

On our way home...

Today is Tuesday and we made it to Baton Rouge. It is kinda sad leaving New Orleans. That feels like our hometown in a way. But one thing we won't miss is the bad air quality there.
Amber had a drawing done of her Sunday. We went and bought a frame for it. Uncle Shan got her a camera for a late bday present so she has been taking photos of everything.
She is doing better. Dr. Harch stopped oxygen therapy because she was getting alittle too much of it. So we have to go back in a month or so for 2 more weeks. She is so excited to get back home and see all of her friends. She is wanting to have a sleep over Friday night. I guess we can't get out of that one... Ha ha
Alizabeth is staying with Emma Grace tonight. Kristie just called but she would not talk to me. We miss her so much. And Tyler too...
We can't wait to see one of Tylers ballgames. We have not seen him play football in highschool yet.
Wewe is home from the hospital. Amber is ready to get home and see her.
We are staying at the Hampton Inn in Baton Rouge. Amber says it is alot nicer motel than New Orleans. She has been playing with the people downstairs.
We are getting dressed to go eat so I will update you later..
