Wes had his treatment today, and he has 9 more to go. He has been having a little trouble swallowing, so his dr gave him a prescription for their “cocktail”. It is a mixture of maalox, benadryl and something else that is for pain (i cannot remember). It numbs his throat. They also gave him some more prescriptions just in case the “cocktail” doesn't work. Since the “cocktail” is only made at MD Anderson, he had to get the prescription filled at the pharmacy. They told him it would take 45 minutes however, an hour and half later we were still sitting there waiting for his name to appear on their plasma flat screen tv. I know Wes just wants to take it off the wall and take it home with us. :-) We sat in the hospitality area where you can get free tea, coffee, juice and cookies if you sign their book. It is ran by volunteers of the hospital and is staffed by cancer survivors. Something very interesting happened to Wes there today, but I will not tell you. You will have to ask him. It was funny, but the poor old man couldn't help it. I laughed so hard I had tears rolling down my face. It reminded us both of when we were searching for my engagement ring at a jewerly store in New Orleans. After waiting so long to get it filled, Wes is told that the insurance will not cover it, and he is thinking oh great. However, the lady tells him that it only cost five dollars.

This afternoon we had to go to the grocery store (Kroger) for milk, bread, and drinks. We also went to Michael's, Joann's, a card place, and Target. We made an appointment with Mr. Hector at Target to get our pictures taken on Friday. We were hoping they would be back before we leave Houston, but they will not be back until the week after we leave. While we were getting out of the truck at the Kroger, a vehicle with a Waller-Singer sticker came by, so my mom ask one of them if they were from Winnsboro. The guy told us that he wasn't, but his wife was. He is married to DeeDee Singer (whose dad owns part of Waller-Singer, in case you didn't know). We just thought it was so strange to see that sticker, so we decided to ask.

We have new neighbors next door (a man and lady). They moved in today. We did have two Chinese guys living next door, but they moved out over the weekend. Well, I guess that is all the news for now. Later.

Hello from Home

Friday, January 27th, 2006

Well, we are back in Crowville. We will be heading home later on this morning.. We made it back to Crowville around 6:30 last night. The treatment yesterday went fine, and Wes saw the doctor. Well, he didn't see his doctor,b/c he is in California at a conference. I cannot remember the doctor's name, but he was very nice. Wes told him about the heartburn/indigestion feeling he had been having and the doctor said they make a “cocktail” there that he could get if it doesn't get better. Wes said he would give the Nexium a try, since it seem to be helping. He said it hasn't been bothering him as much. He is getting a little pink on his chest and on his back where the radiation comes out, which is all normal. Not much more to report, except that we will be heading back tomorrow around lunch. Later….

Hello from Houston

We are half way there. Wes had his 11th treatment today and he has 11 more to go. The Nexium seems to be working. Not much to report other than that. Nothing really planned for the day. Until next time…

The lastest news from Houston

Tuesday, January 24th, 2006

Hello, Kara, it was nice to hear from you.

Wes has 12 more treatments to go. He has been having a heartburn/indigestion feeling, so they gave him Nexium. They said that was one of the side effects, but other than that he is feeling ok. Yesterday, as you know, was Grammy's birthday. We took her to Saltgrass last night. If you are ever in Houston or anywhere where there is a Saltgrass, you MUST try it out. We have been there several times and the food and service are AWESOME. We keep thinking everytime we go back that we are going to be disappointed, but so far we haven't. We were hoping they would sing Happy Birthday, but they do not sing there. However, our waiter did sing to grammy. I think he was wanting a good tip, which he did get. He was one of the best ones we have had there. When we got back, Grammy had a suprise at our apt door. She got a basket of flowers with balloons from two of her friends/co-workers. It was very nice of them to remember her. Emma Grace loves the balloons. After eating supper, we decided to play a few games of Yahtzee. I won the first and third game, Grammy won the second(she didn't play the first game and she hasn't played in YEARS), and Wes won the last game. I guess that is about all for now. We really don't have any plans today. It is a pretty day out, so we might take Emma Grace for a walk. Until next time…. Goodbye

Houston-Happy Birthday, Grammy!!!!

Monday, January 23rd, 2006

Today is Grammy's birthday!!!! We had balloons, cake, party hats and flowers. We gave her a gift card to Target and Michael's. Emma Grace is loving the balloons. We had to be careful with all the candles, so it would not set the fire alarm off or the sprinkler system. :-P Wes had his 8th treatment today, so now he has 13 to go. We don't know what we will be doing today. It is Grammy's day, so she will make all the decisions. Until next time…. Goodbye

Still not much going on. It is a rainy day here. Wes put new photos up, so you can go enjoy those. His treatments start at 8:30 this week, so no sleeping in. We might try and go to the aquarium this week. We would have gone this weekend, but it has been rainy. We will go home next weekend, so we cannot do it then. Auntie Kim might come the next weekend, so we might just wait til then and go. Well, gotta get back to making cards and doing some scrapbooking… Until next time…. Goodbye..

Wes had his 7th treatment, so he has 15 more to go. We are not going home this weekend, but we will next weekend. He saw his doctor today, and his blood work was fine. Two of the liver enzymes were back to normal, and the other one was down, but not back to normal. White and red blood counts were back up. The doctor said they would keep an eye on it. I guess that is about all for now. Wes has a conference call at 1:30, so no plans to go anywhere. We might take Emma Grace out for a walk later on this afternoon. The apt complex has two ponds in the middle of the complex and a walking trail around them. Oh, well, until next time…. Goodbye

Hello… Not much is going on. Wes is down to 16 treatments. He had blood work done yesterday, but they did it wrong. He had to go back today and do more. We will know the results of that tomorrow when we meet with his dr. They are watching the liver enzymes. Like I said, nothing really going on. My mom and I have been cutting out dye cuts for scrapbooking and for her classes' Valentine's Day bags. Emma Grace is still enjoying her new home. She is the happiest baby. She started number 2 baby food and she HATES it. This morning before I even could get the spoon to her mouth she was gagging. It was so funny. She took about four bites and wouldn't open her mouth again. She doesn't like the juice either. We do 1/2 juice and 1/2 water. She drinks it and gags, and then, when you give her the bottle with milk she slowly takes and tries it. Well, I am going to get busy dye cutting some more things. Check back later…

Houston

Well, we are back in Houston. We made it back last night around 9:30. The drive wasn't fun at all. It started to rain around Shreveport, and rained the whole way. At times, it was raining so hard I couldn't see to drive and water was running over the road. Wes had his treatment this morning. He said it all went well. We are now back at the apartment. The only plans we have for today are going to the grocery store. Emma Grace had her sixth month check-up yesterday, and, yes, I let them give her those shots. I didn't want to, but she needs them. She is now 16 pounds, 8 ounces, and 26 1/4 inches long. She is getting to be such a big girl. She can sit up by herself if you help her get to that point. She loves to talk, and sings while she is going to sleep(when she isn't fighting it). She was a very good girl traveling back yesterday. We were afraid she might not be too happy, since she had her shots. I have been giving her tylenol to keep the fever away. The first shots she didn't have fever, but the second ones she had a little. Of course, I am watching her like a hawk. I guess am one of those helicopter moms they have been showing on the Today's show. I think that is all for now. Until next time. Kristie
