Hello from Birmingham…..

Wednesday, January 31st, 2007

We made it to Birmingham yesterday around 2. The drive wasn't bad at least it wasn't raining. Wes had a short meeting yesterday afternoon, and then we made our way to the Cheesecake Factory to eat. Yummy…. We then found the Target to get milk, Sprite, Coke, and an ice chest to keep all of that cold. On our way back, it started sleeting, but later turned to rain. They had predicted some ice and snow, but we didn't see any. Wes is at his meeting. He left around 7 to go eat breakfast with Scotty and Keith, and then they left for the meeting. He called around 12 just after they finished eating lunch. Emma Grace and I walked across the street to Subway. She refused to eat. She was very sleepy. When we got back to the hotel, she went straight to sleep. She is still asleep. Hopefully, when she wakes up she will eat. I know one thing she will certainly eat, and that is Puffs. I swear she could eat the whole container. I really don't know the proper name for them. They are flavored cereal like things that melt in your mouth. Well, she is moving around. Guess I better go….

Happy Birthday Grammy….

Wednesday, January 24th, 2007

Yesterday was Grammy's birthday. We sent her some flowers, and we were going to take her out to eat. She decided that we could take her to eat on Saturday. We are working on her a gift, but it isn't finished.

Wes has to go to Birmingham next week, and Emma Grace and I are going with him. Grammy says Birmingham doesn't allow little blue eyed girls, so Emma Grace cannot go. :) We are thinking about heading to Atlanta on Friday. The Braves are having their Winter Fest on Saturday, and we want to take Emma Grace to the Georgia Aquarium. She loves "ish", and I know she would have a blast.

Oh, well, guess I better go….

Emma Grace's New Room at Grammy's House

Monday, January 22nd, 2007

Emma Grace is finally starting to get her new room together at Grammy's house. We got the flooring down Sunday night and put the baseboards back up Monday night. We have a little ways left to go before the furniture can come in completely.

Monday night was the first time Emma Grace got to see and play in the close-to-finished product. She has a tent and a few toys to enjoy.

There are photos in the photo section, as well as some videos of Emma Grace, Mommy, Grammy, and Daddy playing in the room.

Enjoy!

Emma Grace is feeling lots better…..

Wednesday, January 17th, 2007

Emma Grace is finally feeling lots better. I don't think she is back to her same self, but she is feeling better. She hasn't had fever since Sunday, but she did have a little rash today. It was just a few bumps on her stomach and chest. She still will not eat very much, but she was like that before she was sick. Some days she eats really well, but other days she REFUSES.

She slept through the sleet this morning. I was hoping she would get up while it was doing it or it would do it again so I could take her out in it, but that didn't happen. She has enjoyed playing and watching Nemo and Barney today. Right now, she is trying to help Grammy grade her papers, and she is enjoying the cookies her daddy made.

Wes has added a new feature on the website. You can chat with us by clicking on Chat with Us over on the right under links. You use the same login and password as you do for the photos to enter the chat. If you cannot remember the login or password, email me at kristie@monceaux.org, and I will email it back to you. He has also put up new photos. Guess that is all for now…

Emma Grace is feeling better…..

Monday, January 15th, 2007

Emma Grace didn't have any fever today, and seems to be feeling lots better. We haven't noticed a rash yet. She slept a good bit today. She enjoyed watching Nemo with her daddy tonight while Grammy and I graded test papers. Kindergarten isn't the same as it used to be. They have to learn a lot of stuff. Well, I guess that is about all. We were hoping it would snow, but I don't think it is going to do anything. Grammy and Wes were hoping it would do enough icing so they wouldn't have to go to work, but I don't think that is going to happen. Well, I have clothes to fold and put up. Emma Grace is sleeping so I am headed that way shortly. Maybe it will snow tonight and Emma Grace can play it. Well, I spoke too soon about Emma Grace being asleep. Gotta go rock her back to sleep….

Still sick….

Sunday, January 14th, 2007

Well, Emma Grace is still sick. She didn't run any fever the whole day on Saturday until about 6. It was up and down all night. When I got up Sunday morning, I felt of her head and she was burning up. I check her fever, and it was 103.8. Grammy had spent the night with us to help with Emma Grace. She got her undressed while Wes ran the bath water. I checked her temp again right before we put in her in the tub, and it was 104. I called the doctor's office immediately. The receptionist said I will have the nurse call you back, but she called back and said to bring her on in. We headed to Monroe around 10. They drew blood again to check her white count, etc. Her doctor isn't on call this weekend, so we had to see another doctor. Dr. Stanley is always so gentle and sweet, so I was afraid how this doctor would be. He was a little rough with her, and I was afraid Wes was going to say something to him. The poor man is like 80, and had the shakes so bad. He gagged her when he was looking at her throat, and that made her mad. I was trying to be calm. He examined the movement of her neck to check for meningitis. He checked her ears, nose and throat. He then examined the back of her head. He asked me to feel the knots in the back of her head, and I started freaking out. The lymph nodes in her head were swollen, and I said is that bad. He said no. He said it is very common for them to be swollen, and that she had Roseola. He said this was very common in kids under the age of 3 that have very high fever and no other symptoms. He said in a few days she would break out in a red rash on her stomach. He got a book out to show us what it would look like, so we would know. He said the fever usually last for 3 days, and then the rash. The rash will last for a few hours or a day. He said the only thing to do was give her medicine for the fever and plenty of fluids. He said she may also have diarrhea, which has happened tonight. Her white count was down a little more than Friday, but everything else was fine. He said he couldn't 100% say she had Roseola without doing viral test, and she would be feeling better by the time the results came back. He said since all of her counts, other than the white blood cells, were fine so he was almost positive that is what she had. Although he was a little rough with Emma Grace, we were still pleased with him. He is just a little old. When we came out, I told Grammy that I was glad she wasn't back there because she would have had a fit. She said I heard her crying. Auntie Kim also said that he could be rough with any other kid, but NOT Emma Grace. :) Grammy said while she was waiting on us that almost everyone that came in was worried their kid had the flu. The flu seems to be on a rage in Monroe, so I hope she doesn't end up with it.

Saturday, Grammy and I went to see Paula Deen and family in Vicksburg. We had the best time. I haven't laughed that hard in a long time. I laughed so much that I had a headache when we left. If Emma Grace hadn't been sick and Wes would have felt like it, Wes and I would have gone back for her 7 o'clock show. They made Shrimp and Grits, a trifle for dessert, and margaritas. They didn't make enough for everyone to eat, but she went around in the audience. She came over to our side with the Shrimp and Grits. I wanted a shrimp, but she told me to slurp the juice and I did. It was very good, a little spicy, but good. I was hoping to get a picture with her, but Grammy's camera was acting up. I don't think we even got a picture of me slurping. Deanna tried with her camera too, but it was acting up too. Tammy told me that she couldn't believe I put my mouth on a plate that other people had touched, and after I think about I cannot believe I didn't either. Oh, well, it was fun. I would like to try the actual dish even though I am not fond of grits. It smelled so good cooking and the juice was pretty good. They make it about both of their restaurants in Savannah, GA, so maybe one day when we go out to Atlanta we can take a trip to Savannah to eat at the restaurant. She brought her two sons, daughter-in-law, new grandson and husband with her. Her grandson was so cute. He turned 5 months on Sunday, and he weighed 17 pounds. He was a little chunk. His mommy said this was his first public appearance, so he might be a little nervous but he seemed to enjoy it. I would highly recommend to everyone to go see her if you have a chance.

Well, Grammy finally got Emma Grace to sleep. She was so sleepy, but just didn't know what she really wanted to do. She would go to me, Wes and then Grammy. She would want down to play. She looked like a drunk walking around, b/c she was so sleepy. Grammy tried to leave, but Emma Grace would cry. She finally took her in her room and got her to sleep. Thank you Grammy.

Well, I better try to get some sleep. It is pouring down rain, so it should be some good sleeping weather.

Dr's appt

Friday, January 12th, 2007

We took Emma Grace for her 18-month check-up today. This morning while I was getting her dressed, I noticed she felt warm. It was a little warm in here since we had the heat on last night, so I really didn't think much about it. We stopped in Rayville to get gas, and her eyes were looking sickly. I asked Wes to feel her head to see if he thought she had fever. He said she was a little warm. Before we went into the dr's office, I changed her diaper and she wasn't happy. She cried so much that she had a snotty nose and watery eyes. She also had nasty nose, but REFUSED to allow me to get it out. They called us back, and the lady did her weight, height and measured her head. She asked if she had allergies and I said I made her mad before coming in. I asked her as she was leaving if Emma Grace felt warm to her. She said not really but I will go get the thermometer. She checked it, and Emma Grace had 100.7. The nurse said I will have to get a CBC. Emma Grace wasn't too fond of that. Thank goodness it didn't bleed long. You could tell by this time Emma Grace didn't feel good at all. She usually wants down and she was just clinging to us. We attempted again to clean her nose, but we had no luck. The nurse came in to do a Flu swab of her nose, and she was able to clean the yuckiness out. Emma Grace finally settled down and went to sleep as we waited for the doctor. The nurse came back in to do an RSV nose swab. The dr finally came in, and it looked like a viral thing. The flu and RSV swab were both negative. He said it could be a number of things, but to just watch her and keep the fever down. He said it should run its course and be over with by the end of the weekend. She had this back in October, so I am hoping that it is nothing just like that was. We got her some Motrin, and did a few errands. We ate at O'Charley's and came home. When we got home, Grammy said she felt warm, so we checked her temp. It was almost 103, so I was freaking out again. She was so sleepy since she hadn't had a nap today. We gave her more Motrin and she went to sleep. She woke up around 9 with her hair soaking wet with sweat, and fever of 101. She sat in my lap sleeping for a little bit, but woke up. Wes changed her diaper and when he brought her back she was ready to play. She has been playing ever since then; however, she is looking sickly again. Her eyes are watering and her nose is snotty again. We checked her fever and it is 102. It is too early for more Motrin, so we don't know what to do. I don't like her being sick. It is very scary. I am going to rock her even though I don't know if she is ready to go to sleep. She is currently GLUED to Sprout, so I don't about her lying down. I am just hoping she will be better tomorrow. Until then…..

Still sick

Friday, January 12th, 2007

Emma Grace finally went to sleep around 2, and then woke up around 6 this morning with fever 103.8. We checked it with four different thermometers and they all said the same. We gave her more Motrin and it started to kick in around 7:15. She wanted down to play, so I knew she was feeling better. She played until about 9:30. Grammy came to watch her while I took a shower, and so Wes could sleep since he didn't sleep last night. He stayed up checking on Emma Grace. I called the dr's office before I took a shower to see if we needed to bring her back in or if we needed to do something different. They said to alternate Motrin and Tylenol. Motrin every 6-8 hours, and Tylenol every 4-6 hours. When I got out of the shower, we decided to see if Emma Grace would eat anything. She ate a few puff thingies and a few bites of pancake, but she was so sleepy. Grammy rocked her maybe five minutes, and she was OUT. She is currently sleeping, and Grammy went to Winnsboro to get children's Tylenol. We had infants, but the dr's office said to use children's. Grammy and I are still planning to go see Paula Deen in Vicksburg. I am hoping Emma Grace will be ok. She will be in good hands with her daddy. Aunt Tammy is still debating on whether to come or not. I think I am about to call her to see if she has made up her mind. Well, I don't think she is coming. She is still asleep. Oh, well, I will let you know how Emma Grace…

Not much going on….

Thursday, January 11th, 2007

Nothing much has been going on. Grammy and Wes finished painting her room last night. Emma Grace has been playing with all of her toys she got for Christmas, and watching Finding Nemo that Auntie Kim gave her. She loves playing with her piggy bank that Aunt Tammy gave her, and she loves playing with her doll house that Aunt Kim gave her. She also loves climbing on the extra bed in her room. She fell off of it yesterday and cried a little. I turned around and she was right back up there. I told her she didn't learn anything and to get down. She then pointed her finger at me and told me all about it. I have no clue what she was saying, but I am sure whatever it was will get her a good booty whipping when I can understand her. :) After telling me all about it, I told her to get down and was just a fussing at her for being on that bed. She would just look all around, up and down, with her eyes closed as if to say are you talking to me. She has certainly got her an attitude going on, but she is still a sweetie. She will just put her little arms around your neck and hug you and give u a big kiss. Most of the time it is just a hug, but occasionally you will get a big kiss. She has her 18 month check-up tomorrow at 2, so we will get to see how much she weighs. She has become fond of little mini microwave pancakes. She will eat at least 1, but they are so small that I don't know if she is getting enough. She still prefers the corn puffs things that melt in her mouth. She is so funny when she sees the container. She starts smiling and DEMANDING them. When you give them to her, she makes the funniest faces while eating them. I also bought her some Delmonte Fruit Freezers in Strawberry flavor. I tried to eat it, but it was very tart. She LOVED it.

Grammy, I, and maybe Tammy are going to see Paula Deen in Vicksburg on Saturday. We got DeAnna a ticket for Christmas, and Delayne a ticket for her last year birthday. I never knew what to buy her, so I guess it is better late than never. (her bday is in March) Maybe, I will learn how to cook. I doubt it, but just maybe. Well, I guess that is all for now.

A Note from the Past

Saturday, January 6th, 2007

This is just too funny to pass up. I was helping Grammy renovate her spare bedroom by putting up a new ceiling fan while she cleaned out the closet. She has discovered many a forgotten treasure in that room. One little scrap of paper was just too funny not to keep. I told her I would take it, scan it, and put it on the website for everyone to see.

It is a simple note with a succinct message from Brad to Kim written on September 16, 1989 (according to the note). Click the image below for a better look.

The message reads:

Hey Kim! Money talks, B.S. walks!
Brad

Love ya Kim!
